As a collaborative unit of Tinas Webzine local Cambridge Ontario Fans read Maury Blairs book and came up with the questions.
Tina: 1. Hi Maury how are things I read your book Child of Woe. I was overwhelmed by your past sufferings and amazed by your faith and strength in humanity.
Before we begin I have a couple of questions after all the suffering in the past is the why did this happen to me still haunting you today and are there times you wish to shut the world out?
Did you ever have the habit of pushing people away the ones that tried to get close to you? If you once pushed people away how did you overcome the barriers to learn how to trust and love again?
Maury: Hi Tina, glad that you read my book and I am happy to be included in your interviews. I am not haunted by my abusive past, in fact, if I could turn the clock back and start my life all over again I wouldn’t change a thing, because of the wonderful adventure I am on, in my relationship with God. I don’t want to shut out the world. I want to continue to take God’s message of hope and healing all over the world.
Here are the questions from our collaborative unit of the VMU Eteam Webzine (local Cambridge Ontario Fans).
Cambridge Fans : 2. As a child you suffered in silence. What advice would you give to someone if they were being abused or knew of someone being abused? What should they do and who should they contact?
Maury: I would advise anyone who has suffered abuse to find someone to talk to, don’t keep it inside. Find a confidant, a trusted friend, a counselor, a clergyman, find someone you can trust and deal with the low self esteem, bitterness and anger that so often eats at victims of abuse. In schools I urge the students to talk to a teacher, a counselor or a parent of a friend, it is so important. It takes God, Time and People for victims to become survivors, in my opinion.
Cambridge Fans : 3. How is it possible for you to understand God's love when you had not felt loved especially from a male role model?
Maury: Good question, I am often asked this one and I understood God’s love by looking at the love and commitment of His Son Jesus Christ. I struggled with the Fatherhood of God as it related to me personally and had to realize that He so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son to pay for our sins and that really touched me. I had no problem with accepting Jesus as my Savior and Lord but, God adopting me? He is now my Father? It took time because I had no loving male role models in my childhood. It came through reading His word the Bible and finding and making friends in the church environment that I realized there are some good men in our world and I wanted to be one of them.
Cambridge Fans: 4. For most your story seems unreal however your forgiveness is remarkable especially of your stepfather. Do you still struggle at times with forgiveness to those adults whe were not there for you?
Maury: I no longer struggle with the lack of concern for me as a child going through such loneliness and despair. I feel sorry for people like my stepfather because they never had the courage to deal with their past or their pain. I see my life now through the grace of God and I am no longer angry at those who offered me no help or comfort. No one talked about child abuse when I was a child so, victims were left on their own to survive. I was one of many.
Cambridge Fans: 5. Please explain what Teen Challenge is and what is its Vision and Mission?
Maury: Teen Challenge is a Christian organization that ministers to victims of drug and alcoholic abuse. It’s vision and mission is to take the message of Jesus and His power to change lives to the hurting drug addicts and alcoholics all over the world.
Cambridge Fans: 6.What is your first experience with God and how has he helped in the healing process?
Maury: My first experience with God was in a shack, where I was reading a book called “Stay Alive all of Your Life.” By DR. Norman Vincent Peale and God made Himself real to me and my life was changed. No one talked to me, no one brain washed me, I had an encounter with the Living God that changed the whole direction of my life. His love for me has had a great impact on the healing process of my life.
Cambridge Fans: 7. Please explain how a person could have peace with God and with the past particularly an abusive past?
Maury: You have peace with God when you except Jesus Christ as your personal Savior from sin, a new life and adventure starts in your heart and life. I now see my past as a tool that God can use to encourage and help others find the peace that I have in my heart today. I am no longer a victim, I am a survivor through God’s love that has restored my life for a purpose that I thrive on, reaching out to victim’s who need His love.
